Review of Charlotte, North Carolina

Great City with it ups and downs
Star Rating - 7/12/2006
I have been to Charlotte several times, and plan to move there in the near future after i graduate from college. As it stands right now, there is not much to do in uptown, and apparently there isnt anything good to say about the education system (although i think that refers to K-12, im not sure about UNC-Charlotte). I have read a couple of comments concerning the crime rate there, and i have to say that, although one should always be aware of crime and potential danger around them, it might me a bit exaggerated. If one always listens to the evening news, your bound to here about anything and everything negative, because the news is a business out to grab ratings. Ignore the news, and look for some kind of reliable statistic concerning the crime before you allow that to influence your decision. Charlotte is growing, especially around uptown, and you can find all kinds of restaurants all throughout the city and suburbs. The airport is easily accessable, homes are reasonably affordable depending on where you live (obviously there are some good areas and bad areas, although i cant claim to know where they are), but i do believe taxes are a little higher than need be. Example: there is a tax on owning a car...in addition to registration fee's, insurance payments, gas, and any maintenence one may occur. (My girlfriend owns a 1999 Camery and had to pay over $100 in "Auto Tax". But this also occurs in S.C., so i guess its a Carolina thing). The city and suburbs are beautiful, and there are plans for brand new "lite rail systems" to make accessing the city eaiser. Your close to Atlanta, Charleston, Savannah, Raliegh/Durham, Myrtle Beach, even driving distance to philadelphia or memphis if you desire a road trip. The weather isnt too bad, with hardley any snow during the winter (although it does get cold..20's and 30's, and very light snow may fall every now and then)and hot, although not extreme, summers (its hot...upper 90's with east coast humidity, but not extreme like texas, Arizona, or New Mexico). Overall, this is a great city with lots of plans to explode in the near future. Simply for that reason, you may want to delay any plans on moving there since moving to a booming area is capable of backfiring on you. I am planning on moving from the San Francisco area of California, and cant wait to get out of this unbelievably expensive area. The city has lots of plans, and has lots of potential. Its already very beautiful and clean, but is capable of having bad ar
