public schools

The suburban schools of Charlotte are overcrowed. One high school up north has 60 trailers. 60! Even so a recent $400 million school bond failed. Some say it is because people have lost confidence in the school system and/or the school board. So, if you are thinking of moving to Charlotte you'd do better do some real homework. Don't count on the school system or the Chambers website to tell you how overcrowded the suburban schools are. If you are thinking of moving here you should go visit some schools during lunch or something. In the recent past Charlotte bused kids to schools other than the one closest to their home. A case went all the way to the Supreme Court that struck and struck down the busing thing. We do have neighborhood schools now but, the inequity in school enrollment is tremendous. Average elementary school in Charlotte proper is around 650 kids. In the suburban schools it is twice that number. The school closest to me opened up last year overcapacity and with trailers. Meant for 800 or so, it has about 1,000 kids and is projected to reach 1,200 in the next few years. Good luck if you need to move here. Alot of people are trying some of the surrounding counties.
