Review of Chico, California

Not so great since the housing boom
Star Rating - 12/7/2008
Thanks to the housing boom a few years ago a lot of bay area families moved here. That is fine, in theory. The reasons they came here are the problem. Reason number 1, they wanted affordable housing compared to the bay area. This of course raised demand here which in turn raised our cost of housing. Reason number 2, they wanted to get their gang banger kids away from the gangs. Rather than removing their kids from the gangs, they actually brought the gangs here. Now we have increased violent crime. I cant recall a single murder from when I was a teenager. Now I hear on the news about murders all the time. Thank you so much to the all of you who brought your problems to a town that 10 years ago was a nice place to live.

Viki I absolutely concur and there is a reason for this. This is not something that you are imagining. I actually talked to the Chico police department ( Bob Woodward) about this 5/16/2011. They told me that crime is soaring in Chico BUT people are not reporting the crime which really messes up their statistics. Funding for the department is way down so that really doesn't help much. One theory is that there is much more illegal drug trafficking then there used to be. Chico is becoming a hub for growing and selling. With such a high unemployment rate and increased population it makes you wonder how these people are doing so well and this may explain it. There are in fact at least 3-4 marijuana gardens per Chico city block now in most of the neighborhoods near Chapmantown alone. According to the police gangs have caught wind of this and are now infesting Chico which explains increased police requests and get this ..S.W.A.T teams being deployed. YIKES! Get out now before it turns into another Spokane WA! Chico is one messed up little town now and it's really too bad because it used to be a very nice place to live back in the 90s.

Vicki, I am in the UK Near Gloucester. I sympathise with you. But i sounds to me as if Chico is no different from anywhere else. I have bought us an American RV, it is our home. That way at least, my partner & I can get out of the cities and towns where most crime is commited. Here too, there are assaults robberies and other crimes every day.... You are not alone. It seems to me that things are getting worse.
