let me start by saying anywhere i have ever lived there has been no shortage of people willing to tell you how horrible the place they live is. that is the nature of people in america not happy unless they are bitching about something, also no place on earth will be perfect. as for me, i was born and raised in connectcut. and moved to Vero Beach, Florida upon retiring at age 44 ... 4 years ago. i did my research for almost 2 years. first off if you are planning to move to florida for the many benifits it offers, it helps greatly to have a steady income flow. either a good retiremnet or a good job opportunity. good jobs are hard to come by in most areas of florida. the weather is not nearly as bad as many people looking to complain will like you to believe. may through september the temps usually top out around 90. lows about 70. the rest of the year a high temp during the day is about 70- 80 and if you are smart enough move to a coastal town ( preferably on the east coast of florida) there is usually a breeze off the water of about 10-15 mph, fairly constant. actually quite comfortable. also summers in the northeast actually are more humid and less breezy than that in florida during the sumnmer. your body also over time will aclimate to warmer weather. there is quite a bit to do in florida and much less crowded. beaches in the town i live are beautiful and plentiful, and much less crowded than the ones i went to in new england. also there is no fee to park and no traffic what so ever to and from the beaches. also a home 10 minutes to the beach is not expensive. florida has no state tax. very low property taxes. and zero heating cost. central AC comes in almost all homes and businesses. and if you have paid electric and heating oil bills in a northern winter season, you will be quite pleased with your electric bill monthly( which will include heating and ac) my home has a pool that is open 12 months a year( not three months like most pools in the norths. there may be more elderly people here but there is must less kids loitering in public plkaces and many, many parks and playgrounds. my daughter plays little league softball in a spring league and fall league. sports like baseball and softball go year round. if you do your homework and choose a good town to live in you will be happy and you will have good schools. i have not regretted moving to florida one day. tampa and orlando are probably not the best areas to move to. i would reccomend some of the many east caost cities... treasure coast or palm beaches are nice.
