Hi Lisa, I have lived in Florida for a year and a half. I too am from Michigan and am familiar with Walled Lake. I love Florida for many of the obvious reasons. Weather is great and I will even take the hottest most humid day here to any of Michigan's bipolar days. There is so much to do here. I have a large family and in the summer months we enjoy a lot of water activities. The heat does not bother us, especially when you have the choice of visiting one of Floridas beautiful springs, spending at the beach, by the pool or in any air conditioned area you would like. On the downside I think food gets more expensive maybe because there is not much you can grow in florida in the heat of summer. Fresh produce is hard to come by and by mid summer you are done with peppers and ocra. From October to May it is wonderful weather with zero humidity. The produce is plentiful and delicious. This is the time of year many towns have festivals. It hardly ever rains and you rarely even see a cloud in the sky. I cant tell you how wonderful that is. All your up north friends are freezing and you wonder why didnt I move here sooner! There are the snowbirds and they honestly cant drive but either can many people in Fl. Maybe it is because they are either too old to drive or from another country where anything goes and probably because so many people come from all over. Many come from New York ( east coast). They drive with a chip on their shoulder and many just do have a chip on their shoulder. I guess you can take the person out of new york but you cant take new york out of the person. Same goes for the cubins etc.... I have found it very difficult to make friends or meet people. Many people keep to themselves and dont socialize much. That has made it difficult for me. I still love Florida and I am sure there is a place in Florida where the people can be as great at the place. I am however still looking...My husbands job is taking us toward Tampa so I am investigating areas in between Tampa and Orlando.
