As another former Californian, I think you need to consider your values when considering a move to any of Florida. As some of the other posts noted, the schools might be an issue if you have small kids, (or plan on it.) Most of FL is more like another country than just another state. If you're Ok with that, the tax picture will make you happy. Certainly less than you're used to in CA. The weather? That's a personal preference. Crime is not any worse than big cities in CA, but the metro areas do have their problems. Overall, it's a personal choice.
