I can't believe someone suggested moving to Hagerstown over Frederick after saying that Frederick has a redneck feel. LOL. Hagerstown is full of rednecks! It IS a redneck town. I live in Hagerstown and cannot wait to move! Recently, Hagerstown was voted as the town with the fattest and ugliest people in the nation. (I'm not kidding either.) I would add, the rudest people in America as well. I've lived in a lot of different cities and towns and there is no way that Hagerstown is a better place to live than Frederick. I have worked in Frederick for the last ten years and have spent a lot of time there. The people are friendly and there is more to do than in Hagerstown. The downtown area is adorable and it's location is great for taking advantage of the DC area. If your only requirement is cheaper housing, then sure, move to Hagerstown, but you're going to have a tough time finding a well paying job (which is why I commute to Frederick.) In the end, it's all relevant. Property may be cheaper but your salary is lower. Frederick also has outstanding schools that have produced high test scores and the national Teacher of the Year last year. By the way, Hagerstown's downtown area is practically a ghost town and there is no reason, other than the library or one or two restaurants, to visit there. Traffic in Hagerstown is also bad and the section of I-81 from Pa. to Hagerstown is clogged with truck traffic.
