Well, if I get some input that convinces me that GF is worth at least a few years, I'll be one US-born doc in town. I have met a few more. But that is how it goes: Areas that have difficulty recruiting practitioners from the US have to go global. I encountered the same phenomenon when I trained in the rural South. Good, bad, ugly, or anything in between, if you know it first-hand from LIVING in GF, ND, or the immediate environs, please share the joy/misery. Many thanks!

Given the frigid attitude of the major players with whom I got to interact with for hours (and I am friendly and extroverted, so what was their problem?); given the huge distance from my kids; due to the insane price for flights to get anywhere; as a result of the poor opportunities for professional networking in my field; and due to many many more reasons including ridiculously poor remuneration for work (unheard of in other states, in fact, and that includes equally rural ones), I chose Saint Louis, Missouri. I am happy, and I hope that the folks in Grand Forks are happy too.
