Review of Greensboro, North Carolina

Hospitable & family oriented people, plenty of gre

I moved to the Greensboro/Winston-Salem area in '96. I really admire the hospitality here of people and how many people are big on family. I find Greensboro a great place for raising children!

The green trees and landscaping is beautiful. Greensboro overall is a very clean town & nearby highways are generally tidy too. Old & new homes are nice to view when riding through town. You'll often find churches on every other corner too.

The food is great if you love eating and the sweetened tea can hook you quickly! Apartment living is good, 2 bed, 2 bath 1100sq ft apartments average $650-$725. Housing prices are fairly nice too but taxes are higher in Guilford County.

If you're a college buff, any college you could ever need is in NC, period. I've never had a lengthy hospital stay, but local hospitals seem to be well regarded. Free healthcare for the poor and displaced worker is available, as I can attest to.

What I find frustrating is that Greensboro needs more social scenes terribly, especially for Gen-Y people. I'm a Gen-Xer and find myself quite bored, socially. It's very easy to meet up with people, date and get into a social (and liffe) slump.

There are cultural events from time to time, music in the local parks, wine festivals in nearby city and movie theaters.

A drive to Charlotte or Raleigh may give a better social scene, but it's not plentiful like in a large city. Local radio plays gospel, R&B, country, oldies, jazz and hip-hop. Talk radio in Greensboro is nice and for other music genres, you'll have to go to the 'net for it.

Greensboro downtown is being revamped with PRICEY and nice condos. But if you think you're going to leave your downtown condo and walk to enjoy downtown bars, restaurants and neat shops all day and night, you've got it wrong. There are only a few restaurants and bars downtown. Places close early here, on average 10-11 for restaurants M-F. Some bars (maybe 3) open til 2am. Sundays can be disappointing, as sit down restaurants are known to close at 9pm, except JP Looneys. :)

We don't have any large museum, aquarium, planetarium or amusement parks in Greensboro. No beaches or mountains here either. We do have a water park.

It gets hot and humid in the summers and bugs are rampant in NC! Winters can be filled with ice storms on occassion, causing major accidents, fatalities and power outages for many, many customers. It has and does snow here, so don't be fooled. However, winters can be mild
