Review of Greenville, South Carolina

To Elizabeth in NY, My husband and I recently retired and will be relocating from Michigan. Can't wait to leave! After vacationing in Florida for many years and being so disappointed by the present situation down there, we have been considering other southern places. After many visits to Athens, Charleston, Raleigh, Charlotte, Ashville & a few others, Greenville keeps coming back to mind. The lack of real traffic and wonderful downtown area feels like a good fit. Being close to the mountains & ocean is great. On the down side, I hear the air quality isn't the best, don't know about health care since there isn't a major university and may lack in music & art not to mention the drive to a major airport. Charleston is great if you can stand the humidity and Raleigh definitely superior but cooler winters and more expensive. I have family ties in NC otherwise I'd probably go to San Antonio since I can't afford the west. Any and all suggestions are welcomed! Also, I have to believe Greenville is good for us gardeners.

Debbie, Greenville has a very healthy economy and music and art are alive and well. I took my family (my son was less than thrilled, but the rest of us had an outstanding time) to see the touring company present "Ma Ma Mia' last night at The Peace Center. There are many art galleries downtown and, speaking of downtown, WOW! It is beautiful (tree-lined) but not overwhelming. Reedy River Park is a destination in itself. You'll love the landscaping. Yes, I am a realtor. But, I am, also, a Midwesterner (Indiana and Ohio)and we've vacationed many years in South Haven, Michigan. There are two major hospital systems here - Greenville Memorial which is a teaching hospital offering residency programs for, approximately, 180 residents and St. Francis Hospital System - which is a highly rated hospital. Please let me know if you would like to pursue a move to Greenville. I would love to help you and your husband locate your next home here in Greenville. I'm a former MI gardner. Love it here! No regrets. Charlotte is the nearest major air port but not bad. Asheville is cooler. SC is nice for retirement costs. Atlanta OK drive from here to get more action. we like the slower pace here. Freindly place.

I used to live there. The air quality was good. When my mother would come to visit from Toronto, her nose would run from allergies. But when she moved to Charlotte (same type climate) her body got used to it right away and she loves the weather with no greater allergy problems.
