Review of Humarock, Massachusetts

River, Boating and Beach at your doorstep
Star Rating - 3/17/2015
The neighborhood of Humarock Beach is a peninsula of land belonging to the town of Scituate, MA. In the great storm of 1898, the beach was breached from Scituate and connected to the town of Marshfield at the other end of the peninsula. This changed the flow of the North and South rivers, which now both meet at the new mouth at 4th Cliff and the mainland of Scituate. This opening is considered the second most dangerous mouth in the northeast. Boaters enter the mouth and have access to the North River in one direction and the South River in the other as well as "The Spit" which is a spit of land like a sand bar that gets exposed as the tide recedes . We live up on the upper South River with our own marina and the beach is across the street. We can kayak on both rivers through the winding marsh , or take the boat out to open water. Access to Humarock is through the town of Marshfield via two bridges over the South River. Our neighborhood is quiet in the winter and full of life in the summer. We love to walk each end of the peninsula looking at the river on one side and the ocean on the other. We especially like to go out after a storm to see any home damage or change in the beach or river bed. We love our neighborhood even in the cold months as we watch the storms come and go from our riverfront window.
