I am from Thailand, totally Asian. Not Asian:-):-~American. Im just Asian.
Lived in Charlotte for 4 Months, now moved to Lexington 1 hour away from Charlotte.
I think you just need to be in the right crowd,
Some look down on Asians, some just don't and some are being very respectful to Asian. It.depends on how you carry yourself towards those white people as well.
