Review of Livermore, California

Fantastic place to live!!!
Star Rating - 8/6/2008
I've lived in the midwest for ten years, my wife is from western PA, my best man is from NY, NY, lived in the middle east, traveled in europe extensively for one year, lived in Southern California, honeymooned in PEI, Canada, studied in Mexico and lived there.
Crossed the country four times by car.

My point? I've seen and lived in a lot of places.

I really like Livermore. Expensive? That's relative! Expensive relative to the rest of the U.S. undeniable. Relative to LA or the San Francisco Bay area? No.

I like being in the middle of vineyards and cows but only 45 minutes by Bay Area Rapid Transit to one of the prettiest metropolitian cities in the world, San Francisco. 2.5 hrs. to Sierra Nevada extreme vertical drop skiing, or beaches. 30 minutes from 2000 miles of navigatible delta waterways where the water is warm and like glass for waterskiing.

Livermore has, not quite metro quality restaurants but very acceptable, diverse and reasonably priced cuisine and a great european style downtown street cafe atmosphere.

Performing arts 1,500 seat theater to be built. 500 seat already in existence. Two movie theaters (one 2 screen the other 10 screen state of the art sound) in a friendly cooperative non-competing movie showing.

City with a surplus budget, Schools that are well managed.

Very kid and pet friendly, waterbowels on the main street for dogs, closed off main street for Halloween for kids to TRICK OR TREAT.

It's quiet, low crime, safe to walk at night, low key town that's old by California standards, pre-Gold Rush days, est. 1700's by Spaniards and 1800's by German and Danish immigrants.

Livermore had 11 National Merit Scholar HS students last year.

Weather is beautiful, lots of sunny days even in the winter, not humid but it gets dry hot in the summer. No snow. 3-5X a year 20 degrees F.

I like it here and expect to retire here. Hope you'l come and visit and do some wine tasting at one of the 4 dozen vintners.
