Review of Lynchburg, Virginia

I am a native Virginian and after living for 35 years in the Mid-west wanted to move home. My older sister who spent 40 years in New York also wanted to come home. We came last fall and found 2 houses beside each other and bought them. Well after moving and the economic problems from last fall I find I need to go back to work. There is nothing for some one who has spent 27 years in the same job. I worked for Winnebago Ind. (yes the motor homes) and did a variety of jobs while there. But there are no jobs for me and I was assured by a few people that I would find a job easily. So what do I do now? Move back to Ia? Move some place esle in Va? I would appreciate any advise on this subject. I am so disappointed in my home state. I wish that I had stayed in the mid-west.

Why would a person move anywhere, and especially buy a house, before they even have a job? That's on you my friend.

I came to Lynchburg one year ago for a job. The job and the company have been good. But the quality of life in Lynchburg has been way less than desirable. The atmosphere and physical environment of the city / town is pretty depressing, as it is a very run down and old. It seriously lacks cultural diversity, entertainment options, and commercial shopping options. The people are generally nice, pleasant, and harmless, but very cliquey and clannish, so it is difficult to make true friends. If you are looking for a quiet, uneventful location to raise a family or whatever, it might be the place for you. But if you are seeking anything else in a location, avoid at all costs, because it can bore you to tears. There is a lot of hype and promotion currently going on with Lynchburg, but that is one-sided and based on certain tastes.
