Melrose is located a mere 7 miles from Boston and is only one of four cities in MA without a major road traversing, there are three commuter rail stops. It's filled with charming Victorians and a downtown where anything needed can be found. On the upscale side there exists a Starbucks, Turner fish market, Beacon Wine and Liquors and a Whole Foods. A very neighborhood centered place with large front porches. The school system could be better, elementary schools are good, middle school okay (new building) but HS is only about average.
