Twin Cities area of Minnesota

I have spent about 9 years here in the MPLS/St Paul area of Minnesota. I moved here from my home state of Texas(the only place I'd ever lived.) There have been good things and bad things, of course. In my opinion, if you live here, you need quite a bit of money or income in order to establish yourself in a nice place. I attended and graduated from the U of MN here in Minneapolis. The University experience was great! I have lived in three locations: Eagan (SE Suburb), Coon Rapids (NW Suburb), and Uptown (right in the heart of it all.) Eagan was "suburbia" and I didn't like it because it was too Avon-selling-van-driving-look-alike-condo living if that makes sense. Then, I bought a house in Coon Rapids where it was much more quaint. I really liked it there. When I decided to go to school fulltime, I moved into the Uptown area (artsy, diverse, convenient, expensive, walking distance to desireable lakes and the downtown life.) Uptown was fun but I'll be glad to move into something a bit more peaceful again.
I'm moving from here as soon as I can afford to - living here makes that very difficult. I'm moving back to Texas - or possibly the Southwestern states area because it is WAY TOO cold here. The weather is NOT worth anything that makes this a good place unless perhaps you have family here. Snow is pretty for about two days, then it's muddy slush that dirties everything. Everyone says they love the seasons. Well, the summer is humid and is more uncomfortable than Texas for at least a month or two each year. The winter is harsh and depressing for at least 3 or 4 months. The spring is prettiest, actually, but not even close to as pretty as Texas. The fall doesn't last nearly as long as in the Hill Country of Texas either. Don't let anyone tell you differently!
Depends on what you like. St Paul is more of a historical area with lots of character. Minneapolis is more metropolitan and yuppy, probably more diverse, too.
