A Year in the Twin Cities

I moved here a year ago from the Denver area. The main reason I moved here was for career reasons. After a year of living in the land of ten thousand lakes I feel that I can give honest and unbiased advice to people considering a move here. I will start of by saying that when I moved here after grduating from college I had no idea what to expect. What I discovered was not one but two interesting cities. Minneapolis is a large city with beautiful contemporary skyscrapers made of glass. Then theres St.Paul which is a more mid sized city with older more historic skyscrapers than Minneapolis. Both the cities are located ten miles apart from each other and are sperated only by the Mississippi river. What has suprised me about this area is how much natural beauty it has. Never in my life have I seen so many lakes and trees in a city. I guess lakes are to Minnesota what mountains are to Colorado. The main thing that suprises me is how compact this area is as a whole. Its more difficult to find your way around this area than other big cites becuse there is not just one big city theres two and they each have thier own highway system. Having a good map helps. The cost of living here is high but not as bad as other large cities. I hear people complain about how high the crime rate is but to me its very safe compared to where Im from. The climate here does take some getting used to but really isnt that different from Denver. Summer does get warm with a few opressivley hot days. Autum here is beautiful when all the many trees change colors the area looks and feels like a city in northern New England than the Midwest. Then theres the winter. What Ive noticed about Minnesota winters is that there more colder temprature wise and more cloudier than Colorado winters. After winter comes spring which is my favorite season of the year becuase theres a sense of joy in the air when the snow melts and it gets warm. The people here in Minneapolis are very nice. I wouldnt say that there "cliqish" but what ive noticed is that many people here are very highly educated which is both a good and bad thing. Its good because the people you do meet are very interesting to talk to but many people here tend to have a high and mighty, Im better than you attitude and they also tend to think themselvs superior to others. This is a good city to be single in. There is lots of nightlife here its just not located in one area like in most large cites. What Ive begun to rea
