Omaha Not as Great as Everyone Will Tell You

I moved to Omaha from Minneapolis for college 5 years ago and have been sorely disappointed by the city. The suburban sprawl is ridiculous, and the city is obviously divided along economic and ethnic/racial lines.
The city does not believe in putting money into the downtown area and, as a result, it is rundown and no one visits. The Old Market is popular but tends to be overrun by expensive couture clothing and ritzy restaurants.
The vast majority of the city is big box chains. Locally owned businesses are few and far between.
Most people rave about the low cost of living in Omaha, however, when you factor in all the taxes it does not seem so cheap.
If you tend towards the conservative side politically and socially, love football, and are Catholic you will fit right in. If not, seek somewhere else to live.
