Moving from Texas to Oregon

I am fed up with Texas, the weather, the people, every last bit of it, so My husband and I have decided to move, we had considered Florida at first. However I quickly changed my mind to Oregon after my husband had mentioned it to me, I started looking online and immediately fell in love with it, absolutely beautiful. Now we had considered living on the coast but also are considering the Portland area, He is a licensed Crematory Operator and I am finishing school to be a Paralegal. What is the crime like near Portland? Are there jobs available? I read something about not being able to pump your own gas, is this true?? Also What about state taxes as in Texas we don't pay state taxes. We are planning on taking a trip up there for a much needed vacation, just the two of us but also we are going to be checking out the areas, jobs houses etc... Please any information is welcome, and any helpful websites also. Thanks!!!!

Oregon is green,but cold in winter 6 months rain in a year,also what i don't like in here is 1-high income tax! 2-High housing costs , and also high electric bills compare to your state 3-every where you go out you will see most people are over 60 yrs old, its because they don't pay income tax and they don't pay sale tax so good place to live if you are retired (which most are retired,unemployed or live on food stamps. I love to live some where else which has more population specially younger ages (i am 28 YRS old) ,but i own businesses in here and its hard for me to start over in some where else ,business is very slow as a (used car dealership,mechanic shop and detail shop owner).its up to you what you decide
