Review of Petoskey, Michigan

Not a desirable place to live!!!
Star Rating - 3/6/2011
The summer months are "pretty", but thats' it! The housing is over-priced everywhere here all year, & alot of the restaurants,(and stores) close until the summer months! Downtown Petoskey has alot of vacant stores until summer...very depressing, as well as the large "hole" in the town that isn't filled yet! Do not get sick on a week-end as the hospital is very under-staffed, & there aren't even any 24 hr. pharmacies, so you are forced to go to the hospital if you need a drug. The hospital staff has been extremely rude when we had to go, & we didn't feel the nurses & Docs. were very professional. We cannot wait to move! The water-quality has very high minerals which make your glassware white,& needless to say the horrible build-up in your hair! Petoskey is above the 45th parallel & the sun rarely shines from October-May!
This town is also very lacking in the Arts, as they only have ONE Art show all year...how sad. We will be moving soon down-state where there is more civilization, friendly, happier folk, great hospitals, much more shopping,& a high appreciation of the ARTS!!!

I grew up in P-Town and it is a wonderful place with friendly people. This woman must have had a bad experience-she sounds ultra-conservative- and passing on rhetoric with no hard numbers to back her up. I have friends with kids in our schools and there is no heroin epidemic. I wish the replies had stars because they'd be 5's and 4's, not zeroes.

If you want sun move to Florida but they they have hard water and a high mineral content so Florida is out. As for the hospital it may be understaffed, most hospitals are understaffed. It is sad people have to be entertained 24 hours a day is not very creative. I lived down state and did not like it. It sounds to me you are a snob and nothing would please you

Elizabeth, You are wrong and spreading (did spread, since it is 2 years later than your post) garbage in so many ways here it is pitiful. Sounds like you have (had) health issues,no insurance for such,(ACA yet?)no water softener,(hey Culligan Man!) do not like being outside ever, and have never walked and driven around the whole area (with open eyes) which has more Arts opportunities than Traverse City just about! "One Art show all year"? You lie. Yep, called you a liar. Did it. Know why? Because you lied.(guess you are a frustrated Artist as well) There are more art shows here than you can shake a stick at-(and back in 2011 as well!) an award winning Crooked Tree Arts Center which has for over 30 years put forth the highest level of multiple shows a year wothy of any big city museum. That is just one of many that existed in 2011, and even more today, in 2013. I think you are(were) spiteful from a bad experience and want(ed) to spread your pain. Since it is years later in 2013, I hope you are feeling better, and have moved out of here to a happier place for you and yours.

Oh no.... Bummer... We are moving to the area and never expected the restaurants to be closed for winter. However, that gives us an excuse to cruise on over to Boyne Mountain to be pampered. I know that Mi.isn't for SUN WORSHIPPERS!!!! Actually, w/my thinning hair and "not so clear skin", I tend to like the fact that the lighting here is ambien. Hehe And I'm a decent looking gal. I hope you find down state more exciting w/ the arts and culture. You would probably love Rochester. Our friends here own a pilates studio and are very artsy and cultured. I love them but we just are different. Our familly could spend day after day taking in the sights of little traverse bay while bicycling and boat on walloon lake on a sand bar and break open a couple of corona's w/lime w/ new friends. I hope the healthcare professionals were more courteous to you. Our best friend is a pediatrician. (we can call him day and night) May be we should exchange houses for a week to see how the other side lives. (hehe) Hmmmmm, it couldn't hurt. Thanks for all the info and I hope you find your happiness. I do believe that where we live can have positive or negative effects to our lives. God bless you and may you find your peace....
