Review of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Stay away.
Star Rating - 3/6/2021
City of Brotherly Love? Not at all. There's a "Me First" "They can wait" attitude. You see it in the way they drive, you see it in passing walking down the street. There is so much gun violence and it's getting younger and younger. It's common to hear about a 15 getting shot or a woman. These shootings are happening in broad daylight, in public places where cops are supposed to be patrolling. There is no fear of consequences, no respect or value of another's life. It seems like everyday you hear about gun violence. A 15 year girl just got killed, 7 people were shot close to a University, they just shot 2 people at a cemetery in the county as a retaliation from a Philly shooting a few days prior and a month before that the priest said there was a shooting in front of his church...No one cares here. It's all about self. Of course you'll find some people who aren't like that but overall the vibe is crappy and depressing. Between gentrification, pothole streets, constant construction, corruption, overpriced real estate and the lowest minimum wage in the country...Philly is trash. It's one of the most miserable cities in the country. Stay away. Oh...and for those that think if they move into a "gentrified neighborhood" that there will be no crime? Think again. That saying crime is everywhere...That's definitely true for Philly.

I'm a lifelong Philadelphian and I have to say that the crime is terrible hear right now. The gun-related homicides are out-of-control and our Philly schools stink, unless your children are in a magnet school or a charter school. Many Philadelphia parents choose private or charter schools, including Catholic school when the parents aren't even Catholic. I'm done here and looking for somewhere more affordable, with less crime, with better air and water quality (both are bad), and less crowding. My rescue, senior Pittie and I can't wait! Oh, we do have awesome dogs here! And cats, for the cat lovers! We have plenty of animal rescues to volunteer with or from whom to adopt.

Yes, we have a crime problem, but you haven't seen rude people or bad drivers until you live in Boston for a while. They can't even handle a brief interruption on one end of a subway line, and the MBTA doesn't have enough buses to transport stranded subway riders. I kept trying to get on the shuttle bus, and was repeatedly shoved off by grown men. The guy driving the 4th shuttle bus was the same guy who was driving the first shuttle bus, and he remembered me trying to get on before. He had to order the men to let me on! Watch a group of people get on a bus in Philly. The seniors get on first, then the ladies, then the men. I'll take that any day over Boston.
