I relocated from the Midwest near 7 years ago...I relocated as is commonly heard for sunny, dry desert climate. I was fatigued with the cold winters and unpredictable weather in the Midwest...It has been an interesting experience living here...Overall, I still cannot move back to a cold winter climate again.
The pros are the sunny, predictable weather (as long as you can tolerate the heat, be aware before relocating here). The pros in the past, as well as now selectively, are also with great real estate investments. There are also an endless amount of great restaurants in the Phoenix Metro. area. and easy road trip destinations available.
There are various challenges or negativities living here. There is not an urban, downtown environment anything like other cities (i.e. Boston, Chicago, San Diego, ect...). It is hard to find, besides technology industry, knowledge economy work here with competitive compensation...It is true, there are lines of overqualified people here that will work for not much compensation at all. Also well behind the curve here for finding people-groups interested in complex, intellectual discussions...Many flakes here that seem to be talkers, and high crime also. The Phoenix Metro. Area also is very decentralized and not prepared for the influx of growth...67% of people that relocate here move out of AZ within 5 years or less. Oh yeah, and a big Police Economy here with photo radars for police tickets and Joe Arpaio´s jail-tent city economy...
