Phoenix, the American Dream, if...

...your idea of the American dream is nuclear families living in boxy houses that are mere feet away from each other.
...your idea of the American dream is the oft-templated grind of fighting traffic on careless freeways through dusty air, a felt-walled cubicle waiting to shelter you for 9 hours of technology, management, investment - whatever your white-collar trade may be.
...your idea of the American dream is strip malls and super Blank-marts and food chains and SUVs and overpaid athletes.
To be fair, these things do represent the dreams and aspirations of a great many people, and who could blame them? Many people in the world can only dream of this quality of life. And anyone who does should come to Phoenix because the opportunities for such a life are abundant and ever-growing. The valley is quickly bursting at the seams, building newer masterplanned communities and supporting them with a myriad of familiar services.
This certainly isn't universal; it's just what the majority of Phoenix metropolitan life looks like. The suburbs are the ruling party.
The desert is beautiful, but exceedingly crowded by sprawl. Leave the city to find original desert.
Beware of heat.
