Having worked as a professional magician for most of my life I am acutly aware of illusions created by perception. Two people can experience the same event and have totally different experiences.
I've lived in the Phoenix area for about 24 years and my story is very different from Sally's. Traffic is a problem in any large city, yet when comparing Phoenix's to LA's, Chicago's or San Francisco's we are a cake walk. If you learn to use a mix of the abundant surface streets and freeways you can get around very easy.
I agree polution is a problem, yet the visable polution is more a factor of dust from the desert than the noxious gases one sees in downtown Los Angeles.
I've found the city to be full of wonderful surprises like Lux Cafe, Maizies, first friday and a lot more. Again, it's only perception... mine is that Phoenix is a pretty fun place to live.
