not what it used to be

I'm a Phoenix native, have lived in a few other cities and am increasingly frustrated and disappointed upon returning home. The rate at which this city is growing has completely destroyed any hope of it keeping it's identity. People love to point out it's lack of culture, but I think those of us who have lived here for at least 20 years recognize that it DID have culture--it was a totally unique city before the mass development. People used to live here for the love of desert living. Now, it s a generic anytown, same stripmall stores and hideous housing developments on every corner. The desert is treated as wasteland, the traffic is worse every day, and schools can't keep up. I used to love it here, now that is so hard to do.
