Phoenix Arizona Sucks Period
Star Rating - 5/23/2006
I lived in Phoenix and Scottsdale in the 1990s. I was so glad to get out of Los Angeles. Told my friends that I'd found paradise. Then reality began to set in. There is seriously something wrong with this place and the people that choose to live here for a while. The first thing I noticed was the road rage. Made LA seem like Disneyland. Then the police officers and law enforcement in general. Make Long Beach cops look like Mother Theresa. The people seem to walk around in a daze (crystal meth, rumor-mills and strip clubs are popular here) for the 5th largest city in the US. In short, the place is a cultural vacuum with a inferiority complex and I've heard that 3 out of every 5 people that move there will leave in five years. Every wonder why the housing's so cheap?

To the OP: Just in case you stop by, oh, 8 years later to check on your thread: IT STILL SUCKS HERE! I was here in the 90's too...even got the hell out and vowed I'd never come back....well, here I am again - almost 25 years later (remind me to divorce my husband for dragging me back). Not much has changed...in fact - if this is even possible - it's gotten WORSE! The people are extremely self-centered. They lack respect for anyone but themselves. The sense of entitlement is astounding! All the comments about the people are beyond true. Man, I'm starting to think the angry one's with short fuses may be decent?! I find myself constantly angry because of the antics I encounter on a daily basis. I use to be a happy, non-violent person...now I feel like I could put my fist through someone's face at any moment. Oh - and on an aside?! If you happen to be a dog lover?? You will HATE dogs after living here...because the world's their toilet - and that includes your front lawn, walkway, driveway, and doormats! You'll pray a coyote jumps the sh1tty brick wall in your microscopic yard and visits the neighbor’s house for a tasty, yappy snack after you're up all night long for months listening to your neighbor’s dog barking 24/7. I made the mistake of watching LOST on Netflix...I am now convinced ARIZONA is my island and I'm really (SPOILER ALERT) dead; this he11-hole is my purgatory and no matter what I do or where I go, I keep landing back on this land-locked "island." And don't fall for the cleaner living crap! It's never good when you can SEE the air you breath. The air quality sucks; filled with dust, emissions and drug vapor. If you don't have allergies?? You will develop them...so, you might as well take up smoking and enjoy yourself because it's only a matter of time before you develop lung cancer from just breathing! The beautiful Saguaros (those are the funky tall cacti with arms?!)?? Well, they ain't all that majestic - they all look dead from the sprawl, pollution....and from the douche bags who shoot their pistols at them for kicks. Your neighbors?? They’ll be the biggest, inconsiderate pricks you ever have the displeasure of knowing...and you will be comforted by that thought when your self-serving HOA sends you a fine letter because your sprinkler head is sticking an 1/8" too high out of the ground. Yep - living the dream. Lawyers, guns and money?!? More like drunks, deadbeats and scumbags!

I lived in Phoenix back around 2010 WHAT A MISTAKE!! Ive never seen so many people begging for change while smoking a $6 pack of cigs and riding a skateboard. White trash does not describe these people Its like living in the 70s movies the Hills have eyes but in a city! I lived close to the metro mall off of 35th it was basicaly a dying mall many empty spaces hookers all around the area because of the motels around the 17 freeway. If people werent scumbags they looked like they were barely surviving. After a while I wondered why so many people from NY ILL Seattle moved to phx but hardly any Californians since it is next to Cali, Because Cali people knew what a nightmare it was. Its just strip malls circle ks and old cinder block stucco homes. My hands would burn from just grabbing my steering wheel and if your AC goes out in the summer you might as well check into a hotel because its gonna cost you a ton of money and you are on a waiting list. the few years I waisted in PHX I write off as a learning experience and thank god I made it backto Cali without being jailed by arpaio and his racist henchmen. Housing may be cheap but in the summer be willing to pay upwards of $400 a month on electric bills so its not really cheap. A $900 a month home can jack up to 14-1500 a month for most of the year.
