If you are considering living or retiring here. Think again. Healthcare and quality of life here is very poor. Phoenix culture is one of fear. The messages are don't talk with your neighbor, he might be a criminal. Be careful of a business deal, everyone's a crook. People regularly and openly talk about hating specific groups of people. Even at workplaces. Court system reflects this also. Be careful on the highway you may be shot. The question about traffic here isn't whether you've been in a car accident it's how many car accidents you have been in. Phoenix is called "Little LA". Phoenix is all the bad things about a city and none of the good. Traffic is outta control and continues to get worse. With an ultra conservative popluation whose pokcet books are more important than quality of life, there's little hope that good working transportation alternatives other than sitting in parking lot-like traffic jams. Traffic jams consistent of a lot of road rage and people who are trying to drive 70 mph in stand still traffic. They drive like they are not going to die or are in a video game. Waiting in ER rooms can be over night---trying to get in to see specialists can be up to six months, even with good insurance. (Frankly if I were aging, I'd be afraid to come here as the healthcare is so terrible. The nurses are overworked and overstressed and take it out on the patients. I hear time and time again about healthcare problems from many individuals. Drs. treat the masses, not the individuals)
Phoenix attracts industry that other places won't take---one of highest number of prisons, low paying minumum jobs abound here. Also the population is very transient. The numbers are 800,000 arrive here each year with 500,000 leaving each year. Difficult to find same people. Neighbors dont' talk to neighbors and theirs high block fences between homes. Frankly this is one of the places that while the outside of the home looks nice and the neighborhood looks nice it's deceiving. If you go to local hangouts (all large corporate ent
