I moved to pittsburgh from manhatten one year ago.
i loved ny and was pretty sure i would not like pittsburgh, but i have been wrong. It is a great city to raise kids, there are excellent schools, and the people are very friendly. i have to admit that for young singles it doesn't compare to ny but not many places do and i've lived in many different cities. There are plenty of cool areas to hang out however, and if you like sports its a tough town to beat. it seems to be a city that is steadily improving, and when the new casino, arena and downtown housing project is finished, i think that the downtown will become a bit more like ny. the suburb life here is amazing. there is very little traffic, plenty of golf, country clubs, low cost of living, and parks. it is also developing a diverse population especialy in areas like squirrel hill and shadyside, with some unique ethnic restaurants available. bottom line is don't be afraid to move here, it's a good place, and if you want ten instant friends just where some steelers gear.
