Not Easy Finding a Career Here

Don’t fool yourself, Portland is no place to look for a professional job. Primarily, I'm writing to degree holder's seeking good pay & benefits. I'm not trying to discourage anyone, but the realities are clear. Let me present the scenario…I'm a Government employee with over 8 years of hands on experience and 2 college degree's. I'm young (under 30) and have loads of potential to offer a new employer. So it should be fairly easy for me to find a decent job, right? I wish. Portland has limited positions available in almost any field (except medicine). Moreover, when a random job vacancy does exist (because the previous guy either died or relocated to a warmer state), the position is gobbled up by the countless others with "connections". Yeah, I think I'm going to move, there's just no chance for upward movement here….
