Portland is a great place for Marxists, Nature-Cookies, and hobos (transients). It is a nuturing place for those who seek to live off of the efforts of others and for transplanted Californians who seek to inbreed their version of 'social justice'.
So, if you're a far left nut job, Portland is the place for you. Other areas might include Eugene, Salem, and if desparate, Berkeley, California.

Yes, it is liberal, but not unpleasantly so. Interestingly, much of the rest of the state is fairly conservative, but Portland has half of Oregon's population.

Wow... from the sound of it, you don't take to the idea of taking care of other people. As far as Berkeley goes -lovely place. Love the sunshine, the appreciation for differing points of view, the science labs, concern for wholesome food (they keep fast food chains out as much as possible), the fact that being a transient doesn't translate to "uneducated," and the "fight the Man" mentality.
