The job market in PDX is and has been depressed for decades. Although Portland has been touted as a "model city" of the future, it's economics simply contradict it's reputation. The jobs are difficult to get due to masses of unemployed yet qualified work force. The wages are less than cities like Atlanta, Boston or the like. This place is like Cleveland on the west coast.
