If my review has to be posted with my name, then I would rather my name not be used.
Thanks!
Portland and Oregon is a fantastic place. So full of beauty and many recreational activities...from the coast to the slopes in a matter of 2 hours. Downtown is full of things to do and Portland is avery clean city and easy toget around. I have lived here most of my life and have enjoyed it, for the most part. As I have become older, I am liking it less and less and am, in fact, planning on moving out of state this year. Some of the things I don't like about Portland are:
-Portlanders are fierce democrats and are very vocal. Not a bad thing...just don't talk politics with them...they don't want to hear what the conservatives have to say. And don't talk about revising the budget and stop raising taxes...because then where would the money come from to fund their pet projects.
-Portlanders are mean..or least they have become mean. They are so self-involved. I don't remember it being this way a few years ago. I think as more and more people move here - the diversity has become greater and we are now becomming like a larger city, complete with the fast-paced lifestyle and attitude that comes with it.
-Then there's the rain. Actually, it rains in other states more than it rains in Portland; except, we receive ours all at once. It's June 2 today and it's still raining. Granted, it will stop and we will have a most excellent summer - albeit a very short one....but it will get here. Vitamin D deficiency is very high in the Pacific NW and I have to take 1,000 a day for as long as I live here. Consider this also, breast cancer is very high in the Pacific NW, possibily linked to low Vitamin D levels. Either way...the lack of sun is a problem....I need some sun!!!
-And...because it rains so much...the chances to get out and do things and meet peopele is at a low durng the winter. It is an amazing thing when summer gets here...you look around and wonder where all these people came from! When the sun comes out...the people come out...for 3 months.
-It is very expensive to do business in Oregon / Portland. We have some of the highest taxes in the nation and my business has suffered because of them. Another reason to move.
-People wear jeans to the theater/symphony, etc. This drives me nuts!
-There seems to be a general lack of consideration for what people think...goes back to the self-involvement characteristic mentioned above.
-Housing prices and rents are though the roof and taxes are also too high.
-Oh and...if you do not park your car in the garage...you will have moss grow on the rubber parts...all part of the join of living in the rain. It goes away when the sun comes out.
