Portland-NOT SO GREAT

I'd like to analyze some of the statement made by the last person:
>first of all im glad people rip on portland, it keeps them away.
SUBTEXT: "I have NO rational defense, and anyone who has an opinion of Portland other than anything positive is an idiot. I am really just afraid to face the fact that some of these comments made about my home town MIGHT be true. THEN, what do I do? I would have to ACTUALLY face some reality."
TRANSLATION: Like a lot of places, there are some great people in Portland. Unfortunately not everyone is friendly or enlightened, like this last post. An unfortunately, this type of attitude is VERY common.
>they are just wrong.
SUBTEXT: "I am TERRIFIED that they might be right. Let's burn them at the stakes!"
TRANSLATION: This is the same kind of thinking that runs in the KKK (which was quite popular in this area).
>this stuff about portland being grey for 9 months is just not true, look at the stats, portland averages 142 sunny days/year. that is closer to 5 months than 3.
SUBTEXT: "I know THIS is true. I could use this to defend my beloved city"

SUBTEXT: "The traffic is bad, but not as bad as other city"
TRANSLATION: True.
>the people who complained are simply pessimists who find the bad in everything,
SUBTEXT: "I'm a positive person and anyone who doesn't think like me is an idiot."
TRANSLATION: See the KKK comment above. Not all complaints are based on being a 'negative' person. When something is wrong in our body (like a broken bone), we express these pains. It will sound unpleasant and 'negative.' But it's an indicator that something is wrong, and you need to get help. Portland, wake up, listen to the criticism, and grow up.
>you can find good things about everywhere except LA.
SUBTEXT: "I can use LA as a scapegoat because everyone seems to hate LA"
TRANSLATION: If it's so horrible, I wonder why people keep moving there? LA has its problems, but it's also seems like a great place: sunshine, jobs, diversity (both local and interna
