i have lived here for over 10 years and the weather is really finally starting to bother me. it is not just the rain, it is the fact that in june portland may have a beautiful afternoon on a saturday only to see the next 3 days gray, rainy, and absolutely no sun to be found. i have found people in portland that say they like the rain actually will complain quite a bit about the rain. as for the summers, they are nice but there is not enough time due to the showers in the late spring and early fall. crime is definitely on the rise and this can be a very creepy place with homeless people everywhere downtown and even in the inner cities which are se, ne, n, sw, nw portland. there are alot of friendly and cool people but also some very ignorant people just like anywhere else. i feel that many people do not know how to properly drive a vehicle. graffiti is everywhere. the city is congested and streets are hard to get around due to the cars parked all along the street. garbage is easy to find along the streets, and overall there are alot of needy people. the coast is a beautiful escape for many people who live and visit here. it is only a couple hours away. imo the oregon coast is overrated and if you are a coast or beach person california or florida would be my recommendation. the skiing from what i heard is not that great especially the quality of the snow. utah would be the place for that if you like to ski and snow board. anyways, i do not hate portland. i just feel it is time to move on as the cost of living is ridiculous. the water bureau in portland is going to a 12% increase water and sewer bill. the housing is old and overpriced. i plan to move with my family within the next 5 years as i would like to go back to a fairly and safer city in utah where i spent alot of my chilhood.
