Fine living, rude people, and high housing costs

I lived in Portland, Gresham, and Beaverton for over 20 years and found it to be a great place to live at that time. It is a great place to live for outdoor recreation, you have the Columbia river and the Willamette river both for sailing and water sports. Snow skiing is only and hour away and the Pacific Ocean and the sand dunes are a couple of hours. Horse back riding in the Cascades and the Pacific Crest Trail. It was a wonderful place to live when I was young and had a good income and was a great place to raise my family.
However, now that I am retired i can no longer afford to live in the area. We sold out and moved to Missouri and bought a nice home for $70,000.00 and are gas is usually 40 cents a gallon less than Oregon.
If you are young and have a good job it is the place to live. If you are retiring and living on a fixed income I would strongly recommend that you look at southwest Missouri the cost of living is cheap and the people are friendly. I live on the Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri boarders which we call the four state area with large lakes, good fishing, and plenty of water sports and off road riding for atv's and off road vehicles.
Check out Neosho Missouri.
