The Northeast United States is also beautiful, and it doesn't have to rain virtually nonstop for nine months for nature to be green. There's a term in Western Oregon, "sunbreaks". That's when you see the sun and less frequently blue sky, at best for an hour. On the average this happens before noon, maybe once a month or so. Otherwise, the sky varies from white to shades of grey.
