Its always what you make of it

I think my title says it best. I have also lived on the West and East coast and I miss Portland more than any place I have lived. I do not miss the constant rain but I miss the beauty, the culture, the community and the people. I have lived in California, Oregon (Portland), Texas and New Hampshire.. hands down Oregon was the most beautiful and cultural. It had the most to offer in things to do, places to see and events to go to. However, moving so much has taught me that ease of living is all in the attitude you bring to the table. I have had a terrible time adjusting to the East Coast and I have recently discovered its mostly due to my attitude toward the people I have met here. Yes, they are different that what I am used to and possibly from what I expected, but its unrealistic expectations that disappoint us and the attitude we bring either fosters that or changes it.
Portland is great! I miss it and I would go back in a heartbeat but as a mother I would NOT want to live within the city. I would choose to live in Gresham, Beaverton, Tigard/Tualatin, Oregon City, Troutdale or (if you can afford it) West Linn. In other words, a suburb of Portland. Those, to me, are more safe, family friendly communities. I formed this opinion after living in the area 8 years and visting and traveling it extensively as a single person and a wife/mother.
