Review of Prescott, Arizona

Thinking of moving here.... read this.
Star Rating - 8/2/2015
I do not suggest anyone move anywhere unless you have a calling to go somewhere or have had signs to go. Sounds strange but this place is strange too and the people that come here ,for the most part, belong hear. They love their national anthem played on the radio... they stop what they are doing while it's on to pay respect to it like youre supposed to and people hear are for the most part very conservative. They love their guns and quads but don't like the noise ,the restaurants here are not great so many people just stay home and cook. The visitors and passers-bys make this town look hopping in the summer but it all dies down in the fall when vacation is over so don't be fooled. There are a lot of homeless but there's a lot of churches here too that help. I mean this is a huge christian, protestant, lutheran,Mormon based community. It's like that disco song here "there before the grace of god" get it? Businesses here are grouped together wich will be this towns diwnfall. Dentists are all next to eachother and if you don't live need one too bad. It's an unorganized town that has no business sence and this is a huge no if u own a business and want to thrive. After all, this is why the east coast has more money than the west, this type of grouping things together lessens spending for all local businesses not just the grouped ones. This is a great place to vacation and get away but I have seen small towns all across the usa and think that there might be a town like this in your backyard and you might not even know it.

I was born and raised in Michigan, am 59 and have lived in Prescott for 9 years. My husband and I plan to stay here for the rest of our lives, and find it to be a great town. I am a liberal, spiritual but not religious small business owner, and I love it here. Yes, the majority are republican, conservative and nra-promoting, but I have many friends who think more like I do. There is a higher-than-average retired population. It is a very friendly town, strangers wave when you walk down the street, say hello and easily chat in stores. I started my small business here and it is thriving. Yes, it is extremely dry, but at 5200 feet we live in the 'high desert,' so that is to be expected. There are 4 seasons, with winter being fairly mild. Spring and fall are my favorites, with temperatures from the high 50's through the 70's . Mostly sunny (average is 277 days a year), summers can be very hot (into the high 90's at times), the hardwood leaves change colors in the fall, and we get a few inches of snow a few times in the winter. The dry air makes the 'cold' more bearable. Wherever you choose to live, a lot depends on your attitude. This is a charming town with an active downtown and many great community events. I highly recommend it!

Wow. Moving to Arizona in general from Maui HI, and was looking for the same small town feel of my north shore Haiku Town on Maui. I'm not very bothered by oddities nor idiosyncrasies of small towners, as I am one from Harbor view Jamaica, WI as a very small child then, England. what would bother me is notion that I'd bother them by simply being who I am. I'm a moderately successful woman of color (mixed race) who was married to and have a child by a white British man and we've lived in small communities all over the world. I mind my own business our son 7 year old is friendly, intelligent and beautiful. I'd be moving here from a Scottsdale Arizona we've not gotten to experience as yet because we're still on Maui HI. I'm now divorced amicably from my son's dad, moving on...the many variables he and I will encounter are all quite nerve racking.
