Review of Round Rock, Texas

Round Rock is a very nice place to live.
Star Rating - 1/8/2007
We lived in Round Rock for 3 years, and I wish we never left. It is sunny and warm almost all the time (but not humid), the schools are excellent, the cost of living reasonable, and let me tell you what, you can't get a better deal ANYWHERE for brand new housing! Well, maybe you can, but I sure haven't found it. It is a short drive to Austin, but there's plenty of shopping, movies, etc. in Round Rock and neighboring Cedar Park. The city is clean and crisp looking. Another thing I liked is that MANY of the neighborhoods have their own pools and parks. Association fees are not that much. People complain about the property taxes, which are high, but even with those added in, housing is very reasonable. Crime is virtually non-existant. I mean, sure there is some, but that's everywhere. If you are not from Texas, you will find that you fall in love with breakfast tacos, Mexican food, and BBQ when you get there. Trust me, you will!

There are only two negatives I can think of: 1)Texas people kind of keep to themselves. I mean, they are friendly enough, but it's fairly shallow. Many of them have family, friends they have had forever, and it can be hard to break in. If you are not from Texas, you are a bit of an outsider, but this is changing with all the new people moving to the area. Besides, the "Texas Pride" thing will make you chuckle. 2)There are not a lot of trees in Round Rock. Partially because there are not that many trees in Texas to begin with, and then with the city having so many new neighborhoods, the trees that have been planted haven't had time to grow up. So, if you are a real tree hugger, you won't like that. The hill country in Austin is beautiful if you have the big bucks, of course. If you don't, go for the Round Rock area. It's a nice place to raise a family!
