Review of St. George, Utah

Bored in St. George
Star Rating - 8/3/2013
I lived in St. George for only 6 months. I am single and 52 years old, and was looking for a change from Fresno, CA -- less crime, friendlier people, and a new start. If you are not Mormon, you will not have much to do, and they pretty much stay to themselves. If you are Mormon, they will embrace you and you will have lots of companionship and activities. I found the Mormons there to be clickish and not welcoming. Finding people to socialize with was difficult, and the bars only offered drunks and I also witnessed a drug deal the one time I went to a bar looking for socialization. Also, there were only 4 people at the bar on a Friday night!! The scenery is beautiful, and I was there from January to June, and the weather was lovely then. Jobs were scarce. I was unable to find one. I wondered if they were pro-Mormon when hiring -- There are literally Mormon churches ALL OVER the place. I'm talking probably 20 wards in the city of St. George and suburbs. I might even be underestimating.

We purchased a home in the Estrada community in St. George and while we are part time right now we intend to retire there from back east. Are there lots of Mormons in St. George, yes. Are there lots of Catholics in Boston, yes. Not sure what your point is when referring to religion. We have found the Mormons to be engaging and sociable. They don't drink and if that is the centerpiece of your social life you will be left wondering why nobody wants to bar hop with you. We have a great cross section of people from around the country in our community and we all get along well. The golf course was the attraction in our community and I showed up in the morning and was able to play with a group of 12 that were teeing off early. They split into teams and I do this every day I am there and meet new people. Susan, I think you have some chip on your shoulder about religion and that is your problem, not the people that you are meeting in St. George.
