Those are the only two professions that seem to be in demand, other than low-paying service jobs. Toledo really has some good qualities that you can enjoy if you can find a job! Cost of living is super affordable even in comparison to the nearby Detroit area. You can get a nice house here in the older yet well-maintained neighborhoods for under $100,000 and many for far less than that. Smaller homes can be had for $65,000. And since so many people are leaving the area because of the lousy job situation, you can have your pick of the litter! Apartments go for less than many car payments. Toledo is situated in easy proximity to many great attractions. Cedar Point is an hour drive, with Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame less than an hour beyond that. You can go to Ann Arbor for the cultural college town experience in an hour. There are many things to do in town too, provided that it is summertime. There are lots of festivals to keep you busy in summer, plus the Zoo is top notch as are the Metroparks and the Art Museum. Go to Put-in-Bay, for a slice of Margaritaville in less than an hour. Vacation Destinations abound if you are willing to drive three to five hours: Chicago, Mackinac Island, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Traverse City. Make a friend who has a cottage somewhere north in Michigan (many, many people have them)and get an invite for a nice weekend gettaway in the Irish Hills, or the Upper Peninsula. Winters are long and dreary. If you come from any of the southern states, you will surely miss your native climates. The climate is one extreme to the next, and unpredictable. 70 and sunny, Wednesday and 40, gloomy and rainy on Thursday. This is not an exhaggeration. Summers can be very hot and humid, with winters differing quite a lot from year to year. They are however guaranteed to be dark, dreary, cold and boring, as once winter hits there is really nothing to do here but go to bars and restaurants, which can get old after the fourth straight month.
