One of the rarest gems in America.

Lived here for 3 years, I miss it! A truly unique and gorgeous area for outdoor enthusiasts. NO pollution. Everything great a small town has to offer with the amenities that a city has to offer as well. The most beautiful scenery! So many forests, vineyards, beaches. Sailing, hiking, you name it. Not diverse, though- mainly white. Traffic problems due to poor planning, but still better than a city by far. People are SO friendly. A mix of conservatives and liberals. I am a more hippie type and I felt very at home there. Right on the great lakes! The winters are beautiful (but if you are used to warmer climates, T.C. may not be your thing). Not an abundance of night life and sort of cut off from the mainstream culture- concerts, etc. But a thriving arts culture exists. Check out Michael Moore's annual film festival. No where else is like Traverse City. One of the greatest places in America.
