Forget politics. DC is the BEST to LEARN stuff. Continual lectures and classes at Smithsonian, Library of Congress, National Geograhpics, Brookings Carnegie Science, National Archives, Newseum, etc. Also, universities offer classes for non-students. Also Kennedy Center. Metro (subway) is wonderful.
VERY active for singles, especially men. I think that DC stands for District of Cleavage.
Downsides: Good theatre, but not great. Separation of races.
