Give me a break on the crime postings

I have lived in DC (actually in the city) for over 3 years and have never experienced, nor known anyone who has experienced any kind of violent crime. Do I live in one of the nicer areas of DC (upper Northwest near Chevy Chase, MD)...you bet! Guess what, it is a big, US city like any other (I have lived in Philadelphia, NYC and LA), and you find a neighborhood that is safe. If you live in the trendier/gentrifying neighborhoods like Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Capitol Hill (not main part, but the outlying cheaper parts), then you just have to know that there is crime and be smart.
DC does have expensive housing and the taxes are high, but all the museums, zoo, etc. are free which can add up to very big savings if that is your thing. Restaurants are great and many young families are moving to the inner suburbs and back into the city because commutes from the suburbs can be terrible.
