Worth it for some

DC is certainly a beautiful city with lots and lots of foliage, many parks - dog parks - and quaint historic rowhouses, to say nothing of the monuments and etc. Cultural opportunities are everywhere, from free museums and top-rated restaurants to concerts and even a few plays. Diversity is high due to it being the capital. And it remains a very liberal city despite the last half-decade's influx of Texans. All in all, it's a good place to be even despite the crime rate on most days (a recent escalation excepted) but the question is whether you want to spend your entire salary on housing in order to get access to those benefits. Especially given that you have wade through the sea of snooty political ladder-climbers to enjoy them. As a young professional, I'm finding it's time to look elsewhere for a place where I can afford to stop renting.
