Outrageous taxes - for What?

I met my wife in 1967 in Milwaukee while stationed with the Navy at Great Lakes, Ill. After leaving the service, I lived in Milwaukee for six years in the early 70's. I moved to the San Diego area in 1976, but have kept track of the place ever since departing. The taxes, particularly the property taxes for the city, county, and state are so outrageous that any positives are quickly overridden. My property taxes for the 73-74 year rose an incredible 50%! The governments at the city and county level seem corrupt, a shadow of Chicago. The pension system is broken and drags the area down. Even the people aren't particularly friendly, as they seemed in the late 60's. (Maybe I've just been going to the wrong places). It's probably all related. The folks feel trapped, with no where to turn. And at least Milwaukee County is mostly liberal/Democratic, and we know how much fun that bunch can be!
The list has no end, so I better stop. Milwaukee is on the slide, and it's a pity.
