Review of Wasilla, Alaska

The little rathole that was
Star Rating - 6/30/2009
I left that rathole back in the early 1990,s . Don't miss it a bit. Too much rat race and too many people to enjoy anything to do. Back then there were few stores in Wasilly . Most had to go into Anchortown to shop. Can't say as I would ever go there again.

Meadow Lake's, and Wasilla Alaska is a great place to live, Wasilla has great shopping, an excellent hospital, everyone is nice. I'm grateful for living here every day. :) The cold winters, lack of daylight, lack of night can create mental issues with some people, they can get buggy. Before I was living in San Diego where it is a horrible place to live, some of the people are jerks. Crime is rampant, traffic anytime of the day is slow, overcrowding destroyed the beautiful city. :(

Yes, Wasilla is a rathole. The crime is out of control. If your house is broken into, which happens quite a lot, calling the police is only useful in as much as you need the report for any insurance you may have. Up until about 2014 the WPD seemed to make some kind of effort to actually enforce traffic laws but bot so much anymore. The residential area we live in has virtually no traffic enforcement. The main road through the area, Lucille has a 35 mph speed limit while all the others are 25 mph. It's very common to see cars doing 10 plus mph, with many doing 50 plus mph. Our residential street with a 25 mph is a short cut for the impatient psychos driving back from Anchorage and it is very common to see cars driving in the 40's, 50's, and even 60's mph. The one neighbor put out a sign asking people to slow down because of children and it's ignored. In Wasilla, like most of Alaska anymore, stop means speed up and blow out into traffic with ho warning. Many drivers boom people at all hours of the day and night. Pretty much, drivers can do whatever they want in their cars and they don't seem to have any concern they will be caught by the barely sporadic traffic enforcement. Complaints to the city council, mayor and PD are either ignored, or result in patronizing comments or with the various parties pointing fingers at each other or blaming the state legislature. Children, etc., find drug needles in the park, the local stores, in the last few years, have resorted to posting guards or employees at the exits to watch for thieves. Meanwhile, with all the crime, the traffic free-for-all, drug use, etc., public safety has taken a back seat to a replaced library and worrying about what kind of freaking shopping bag we're using.
