Review of Ellijay, Georgia

The Peace and Quiet of Ellijay . . .
Star Rating - 10/13/2019
I retired after 35 years offshore from Commercial Fishing the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean and Atlantic in 2009. Moved to Woodstock GA to assist my father in his latter years. Attended a auto show in Ellijay and decided I wanted to live here. Bought a home on a few acres in the " Sticks ".
Originally from Long Island NY, I have the accent, however, the attitude is all Southern. I say my New York is in remission.
Reading some of the reviews I find amusing. I am a Veteran of the US Coast Guard, father of three, white male. If you find that hateful or hate speech, you might want to reevaluate your life.
I moved to Ellijay for the peace and quiet of County living. My home is three miles from paved roads, well water is cold out of the tap. My two roosters wake me before dawn, and my hens produce fresh eggs every day. " Bubba " My rescue Pitbull, enjoys mole diggin', protecting his chickens and chasin' squirrels.
My interactions with the locals.... I have yet to find someone I do not like, or doesn't like me. Everyone is friendly and respectful, and will help you if and when you need it.
I own and drive a 2012 Dodge Ram 1500, Love my Second Amendment right to Keep and Bear Arms and show it by open carrying my sidearm.
I find local Law Enforcement is friendly to myself and like that I support our Second Amendment Right as I have had a few conversations about my sidearm choice verses theirs. Very Friendly conversations.
About the Tourists... 25 years in Florida and I understand they are on "Vacation" in our little bit of paradise. However, I live here. If you find Ellijay or Gilmer county the place you want to move to, Please do... but leave your Politics in the area you just left. Do not come here to change us, come here to enjoy our conservative way of life.
If you see me in town or at Wally World or Ace Hardware, know that I will do my best to make your visit the most enjoyable I can and will protect you with " ... upto and including my Life, so help me God."

Enjoy your stay, and leave our community the way you found it, clean, quiet and protected...

Hey Joe, very eloquently spoken! I'm looking to relocate and Elijay has just received a top spot on my list of preferably destinations, because of every word on your post. Yes, there are many questions that a person may have when deciding on relocating, rightfully so. Real people such as yourself, who actually live and socialize around town make it easier to decide where to reside; as oppose to only reading statistics. I am in the midst of making travel arrangements to tour small cities (country sides), because I love country living, peaceable people, and beautiful scenery. See y'all soon!

You have a poet in yourself. I am a local realtor and you made me want to move to the area all over again. I agree with every word that you said. "Hate speech" these blimished minds need to examine what they say, why they are saying it and who and why they're following certain people. I am a millineal and am shocked by the pliable minds of people my age and younger. I moved from Cali because I couldn't stand the sadistic politics. Please don't bring them to our small town. We love everyone but we don't love hate, victimhood mentality and pointing fingers. Take responsibility for your own life and don't blame others for where you are.

Just found this site and will comment on this old post anyway! Thanks for your comments, Joe! I am strongly considering a move to Ellijay next year. Currently live on 5 acres of sagebrush in the high desert of southern Idaho. We have a private shooting range in the back yard (a berm that backs up to nothing for miles) so the 2A is VERY important to me and my adult sons. Idaho (unlike Georgia sadly) has constitutional carry, which I will miss. However I do have a concealed carry permit which I will obtain locally after moving. The problem with Idaho is that it's become the "in place" to be these days. Housing prices have skyrocketed as well as traffic and rude people, many from CA. We moved to Idaho from CA over ten years ago to get away from the politics and more. And now it's followed us. I have ducks (6) and chickens (7 plus two rooters) and two large dogs and want to continue with my feathered family after moving! I hope to visit GA later this year, and if all goes well, move in the spring/summer of 2022. Also will be looking for a house with some land and maybe a good spot for another private range!! Sequoia
