Review of Lathrop, Missouri

Cost of living outrageous, DYING town.
Star Rating - 5/17/2008
How the statistics are compiled on this site I can't imagine. There is 1
very small grocery store where you can generally buy about a half dozen
items per week on sale at a "good price", everything else is out of this
world. The alternative is a convenience store, which is even worse.
Restaurants are priced about average and tend to give generous portions and
friendly service. There is NO fast-food, only thing close is a Subway inside the gas station/convenience store.
You can't touch even an old release video/DVD for under $2.50/day specials.
There is no cable! DirecTV or Dish, therefore an added expense of DSL if you
want high speed internet.
Can't comment on the night life other than there were a couple of bars in
town (one of them burned to the ground a couple months ago along with the only laundromat) but I haven't checked if there is live music, karaoke, sports or ???
I find the attaching of "trash pick-up" to your water bill at $13.00
regardless of household size to be outright extortion.
I see the state wide policy of MGE charging a fixed rate for "maintaining
customer accounts and facilities" whether one actually uses any gas
whatsoever or not as absolutely corrupt. Is that not the cost of doing
business?
Overall, cost of housing is supposedly much lower than average which,
unfortunately, does not hold true from what I have seen.
Health care is practically non- existent.
Have not yet experienced auto repair. There is no public transportation that
I am aware of.
