Bautiful countryside

We have only recently moved here and find it a very peaceful community. It is only about 30 miles into San Antonio which has all the services including good medical care.
We would prefer to have more cultural activities as well as closer University access. It is a rugged area, with western and spanish influence throughout. This appealed to us as we have always enjoyed the west; however, we prefer an area that is a little more vibrant even though we are post retirement age we still like the excitement that seems missing.
Our little town of Boerne has a preponderance of antique shops geared to tourists visiting the Texas Hill Country. There are some good restaurants scattered throughout the hill country, but none really close. There is, of course, the normal group of corp. establishments like Denny's, Chili's, Taco Cabana, etc., not too much in the way of fine dining.
Cost of living is probably not as high as other places in the US, but taxes, both real estate and taxes on food, etc does pump up the prices a bit. Costs of traveling to and from the City (San Antonio) is expensive due to high gas prices which hopefully will eventually come down. Riverwalk in downtown San Antonio is a delightful place to take friends and visiting relatives with some good choices of where to eat., but Boerne is a bit isolated from that type of entertainment.
